In For The Kill was the tune du jour for the artsy hipsters, fashionistas and fags a few months ago. Still riding out that buzz, La Roux released the video for Bulletproof just last week and it's even more remarkeable. Elly meanders through a visual maze of MC Escher meets Patrik Nagel.
The "Light Up Your Eyes" Advertisement from Cover Girl cosmetics which feature domestic abuse poster child Rihanna have been yanked from this weeks People Magazine. This is after she was beaten by then beau Chris Brown and disturbing police photos surfaced of the songstress after the incident. There's a multitude of punny punchilines I could use here, but there's a place where even I dare not venture.
Everyone has been excited about Jean Paul Lespagnard since he swept up three awards at the Festival d' Hyeres, an annual showcase of photography and design. His Ronald McDonald Disco Dollie and Rocky Meets Rocky Mountain Couture has been embraced by the European fashion media and avante performers like Yelle. I would seriously love to pick his brain. Starting in February, the Brazil Fashion Cruise sets sail from Santos and continues along the South American coast celebrating music, art, and design. The seven day shopping excursion features daily fashion shows from designers Samuel Cirnansck, and Juliana Jabour among others. The Baglione Collective will provide the visual arts portion of the festivities with live painting demonstrations set to beats by a cadre of international DJs. The journey culminates in a ship wide model search. The winner will be selected by a representative from a top Brazilian agency and awarded a contract with their management group. See you there!
Debbie Harry seems to have taken a page from the Madonna's styling guide: "I'm Still Sexy.. I PROMISE". I don't have anything against women aging. I love Madonna, Debbie Harry, and Tina Turner along with a collection of maturing female singers. This isn't misogyny.
It's possible for a woman to appear sexy, confident, and completely radiant without looking like an anemic streetwalker. I'm not saying Debbie has to make a complete transition to donning ugly holiday sweaters and mom jeans. It's just that ladies should be aware (I'm looking at you too Cher!) that tramping out in a fire engine red micro mini, matchin fishnets and a set of patent thigh-high spikes actually makes one appear older. Leave the trampy outfits of yesteryear behind. Their spirit lives on forever in memories... and the performances of lip synching drag queens.
Rapper Commonhas partnered with Microsoft to create a clothing line called Softwear which will launch this week. The line of shirts are meant to evoke the '80s, a seminal time in the history of PCs. As such,
they feature retro MS-DOS fonts and a
mugshot of a young Bill Gates. Pair them with acid-washed jeans
and a Swatch watch and get out the floppy disks!Check out the full collection HERE.
This week I caught a performance by the iconic Grace Jones at the Delano Hotel. Myself and a handful of VIPs crammed in to the Florida Room to witness the legend in all her glory. I was joined by Benicio Del Toro, Julian Schnabel, Kirsten Dunst, Mary Kate Olsen, Tom Brady, and Ivana Trump among others. Miss Jones performed such classics as "Pull Up To
The Bumper", "Warm Leatherette" and "La Vie En
Rose" which brought tears to her eyes. Grace looked
and sounded like perfection. In several wardrobe changes she sported pieces by Gareth Pugh, Issey Miyake, and Bottega Veneta. See her latest video, Corporate Cannibal", and pics from the Miami show after the jump. Click images to enlarge.
Lily Allen's latest video for The Fear is the ultimate in ironies. The tongue-in-cheek diddy demonizes crass consumption and celebrity culture whilst the singer goes from a trailer park setting to a bubble gum estate. The Busby Berkeley style choreography features dancing presents, servants, and balloons. When the single was leaked online several months ago it was rumored that the track was created poking fun at uber-stylist Rachel Zoe and her celebutante friend Lindsay Lohan. Regardless of the source of inspiration, the message pretty much falls flat because after spending entirely too long to complete the few tracks for her overdue album she has only maintained her self in the media with debauched, outlandish behavior, dramatic weight loss, and luxury shopping sprees. So when discussing "The Fear", what are you afraid of Lily?
For over a decade, Reggie Cameron has worked behind the scenes as a publicist and marketing executive for mass market retailers, chic boutiques, and clothing lines producing fashion shows and working as a celebrity stylist.
Jumping to the other side of the press release, he provides commentary and coverage with an insider's edge.
His goal is to share with you his adventures in Vanityhood and abroad by servicing our mutual need for outlandish launches, regrettable red carpet garb, and always...wardrobe malfunctions!
