Last week in Paris, Christian Lacroix sent heavily jeweled fabrics mixed with lush upholstery textiles and corseted silhouettes down the runway for a culturally lavish effect spanning the Eduardian, Victorian, and even the punk era in his couture show.Rich in historical reference, and technique, the entire effect is both refreshing and lavish.
As for most couture, this may be a touch dramatic for your normal Sunday stroll, however, expect to see these pieces gracing the covers of several of the top style bibles in the coming months. Word has it that American Vogue and Harper's Bazaar are already battling over several of the pieces. I'm sure we'll see some of these looks a bit pared down on all the big red carpets (Cannes, Academy Awards, Golden Globes) adorning our more adventurous ladies like Victoria Beckham or Cate Blanchett. Janet Jackson made it to the show, and it is widely rumored that despite her loyalty to Alexander McQueen, she plans to have several costumes created for her upcoming tour.
