The U.S. Olympic synchronized swimming team performed a water ballet in the shape of the Chanel logo to the song Bali Hai from the musical South Pacific. This is how Karl Lagerfeld began the Chanel Cruise Collection Show poolside at the Raleigh Hotel in Miami. I attended his last resort collection for the august fashion house at the Santa Monica Airport and the celebrities and glamour were in full effect models arriving via lear jet and strutting down the tarmac, standing on "runways created by moving baggage claim conveyors. This time around shots were captured for us by the event DJ, my friend Michel Gaulbert.
The nautically spirited collection featured light colors in ivory or white, as well as various shades of blues. Loose knits and natural fabrics were in view, much use of the logo was seen as well. Very few prints were in use letting the clean lines and palette to appear simple, relaxed and chic. In addition to the many eastern European models he favored for the show, Lagerfeld featured his own personal bodyguard Sébastien Jondeau (seen above) and a set of killer" heels.
